We initially started as a volunteer project in early 2023 when the intersection of AI and nonhuman welfare was largely unexplored territory. Since then, we have grown into an international field-building organization with the goal of creating a thriving ecosystem where advocates, researchers, and industry professionals can collaborate on reducing suffering for all sentient beings. We facilitate this collaboration through our Slack community, events, conferences, and newsletter. We also give talks at relevant conferences and write articles.

At the same time, we're involved in direct work when opportunities arise. One example is the development of AnimalHarmBench, the first ever benchmark measuring risk of animal harm in LLM responses, now published on Arxiv and accepted to a major machine learning ethics conference.
